ما الذي يحجبه

Built to actually stop you

Three layers of blocking. Two of them fire before the page has a chance to render.

150+

Adult domains blocked at the network layer, before the page loads.

0

Accounts, servers, or bytes of data sent anywhere. Everything stays in your browser.

كيف يعمل

How Tawbah blocks porn

The browser is built to pull you where you don't want to go: autocomplete, recommendations, one idle tab. Tawbah closes every one of those doors.

01

Domain blocking at the network layer

A curated list of 150+ adult domains is blocked using Chrome's Declarative Net Request. The request is killed before DNS even resolves, so nothing ever loads. No thumbnails, no preview, no chance to change your mind halfway.

02

Search filtering on every major engine

Type a flagged keyword into Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Brave, or Ecosia and the page is gently overlaid the moment results load. The results are still underneath, but you can't see them or click them. You close the tab and move on.

03

A soft interruption, not a scolding

Every block plays a short recitation of Al-Isra 17:32 and shows the verse. No red sirens, no accusation, no shame. Just a quiet pattern interrupt, enough to break the moment and let you breathe.

04

Your blocklist, your control

Add your own domains and keywords in the popup. Toggle Reddit filtering on or off. Change the recitation volume. Nothing you set ever leaves the browser. Not to us, not to anyone.

الميزات

Every feature, free

Domain blocking

150+ adult domains blocked at the network layer, before the page loads, before DNS resolves.

Search overlay

Flagged keywords on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Brave, and Ecosia are covered the moment results load.

Verse + recitation

A soft recitation of Al-Isra 17:32 plays on every block. Volume is yours. Silence is always an option.

لماذا

Why Tawbah exists

The Prophet ﷺ taught us to forgive the people who work for us seventy times a day. If that is the mercy we are commanded to show one another, how wide must the mercy of the One who commanded it be? Allah ﷻ does not tire of your returning, even when you do.

Tawbah is a tool for those moments of return. When the search begins, it answers with Al-Isra 17:32 and a soft recitation, acting as a reminder of who you are and Who you answer to, and giving you enough space to close the tab. It doesn't shame you. It doesn't log your history. It just reminds you of the path you follow.

Tawbah isn't a replacement for the people in your life. A trusted friend, a spouse, a brother or sister in the deen who will hold you accountable with love. Those relationships are part of how Allah ﷻ heals us, and no app can stand in for them. It is merely a tool you can install in forty seconds, with the purpose of holding yourself accountable in the moments where you need to. It is a small act of taking the means, while your heart and faith do the harder work.

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا

"And do not come near adultery. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way."

Al-Isra · 17:32

One click, then one toggle. You're done in thirty seconds.

  1. Click Add to Chrome on the Web Store page.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, find Tawbah, click Details.
  3. Toggle Allow in Incognito on. Private windows need this or they slip through.
  4. That's it. Browse as usual. Tawbah catches the rest.

أسئلة

Frequently asked questions

Is Tawbah really free?

Yes. Every feature described on this page is free and always will be. A paid tier for the anonymous-buddy community is planned for Phase 3, but the blocker itself (domain blocking, search filtering, recitation, custom lists) stays free forever.

Does it work in incognito / private browsing?

Yes, but Chrome requires a one-time manual toggle after install: open chrome://extensions, click Details on Tawbah, and turn on Allow in Incognito. Without this step, private windows aren't covered. This is a Chrome rule, not a Tawbah choice.

What exactly gets blocked?

Two things. First, 150+ known adult domains are blocked at the network layer, before the page loads. Second, flagged keywords typed into Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Brave, or Ecosia trigger an overlay that covers the results the moment they appear. You can add your own domains and keywords anytime.

Can I bypass it if I really want to?

Yes. Any browser extension can be disabled in chrome://extensions. Tawbah isn't a parental-controls tool and doesn't try to lock you out of your own browser. It's a friction layer for the version of you that wants to quit. The moment of reaching for the disable toggle is itself a pattern interrupt.

Does it track me or send any data?

No. Tawbah has no servers, no analytics, no account system, no cookies. Your blocklist, your custom keywords, and your settings all live in your browser's local storage and never leave. There is nothing to leak because nothing is collected.

Does it work on Safari, Firefox, or Edge?

Not yet. Chrome and Brave work today (Brave uses the Chrome extension format). Safari and Edge builds are next after the Chrome Web Store launch. Firefox is being evaluated.

Does it work on mobile?

Desktop Chrome only for now. Mobile browsers don't support the extension APIs Tawbah relies on. A native mobile app is on the roadmap, but honestly, most of the problem starts on desktop.

I'm not Muslim. Is this for me?

The default recitation is Qur'anic because that's the intention it was built with. But the blocking, the search overlay, and the privacy-first architecture don't require faith. You can silence the audio entirely in the popup. The extension still does its job.

What's the roadmap?

Phase 1 (now): Chrome blocker, shipping to the Web Store. Phase 2: Safari & Edge. Phase 3: anonymous 1-on-1 buddy match with end-to-end-encrypted chat. Phase 4: personal-partner accountability + multi-device sync.

Start clean. Today.

The next bad moment is coming whether you install this or not. You already know that. Close one door tonight.
